5 Reasons a Garage Project Stalls (Which One Is Yours?)

Nobody plans to leave a garage like this. Every full garage started as a normal amount of stuff and a plan to deal with it eventually. Somewhere between then and now, the project stalled — and it stalled for one of a small number of reasons, almost always the same ones.

Here are the five we see most. See which one sounds like you.

1. It's not really about the garage

Some garages are full of things that belonged to someone else — a parent, a person who isn't here to decide anymore. Every box is a small judgment call on their behalf, and that's a harder task than sorting your own stuff. This one can sit for years, and there's nothing wrong with you if it has. → Read: Sorting a Parent's Garage: Where to Start

2. You have exactly what you need, just nowhere to put it

Not everyone with a full garage has too much stuff. Some people have the right amount and no good system — bikes on the floor because there's no rack, gear in a pile because there's no shelf at the right height. This isn't a sorting problem, it's a storage problem, and it has a much faster fix. → Read: How to Store Bikes and Gear Without Losing the Car Spot

3. You just haven't gotten around to it

No story here, and that's fine. Seasonal stuff piled up, the car doesn't fit, and you want it handled without a whole production. This is the most common reason and the easiest one to solve — it usually just needs booking. → Read: The Fastest Way to Get Your Car Back in the Garage

4. You said yes, and now you're avoiding the decisions

You booked it. Maybe you even paid the deposit. And now there's a small dread about the actual day — being handed decision after decision by someone waiting on an answer. If this is you, the day involves far fewer choices than you're picturing. → Read: You Don't Have to Decide Everything at Once

5. You don't know the number, so you haven't called

This is the quiet one. You're not against the idea, you just don't know what it costs, and asking feels like committing to something before you've seen the price. It isn't — a walkaround is free and answers this in 20 minutes. → Read: What Does Garage Organization Cost in Victoria BC?

What they all have in common

None of these are character flaws. Every one of them is a completely reasonable response to a task that's bigger, more emotional, or more uncertain than it looks from the outside. The garage isn't hard because of the lifting. It's hard because of whichever one of these five it's actually about — and once you know which one, the fix is usually much smaller than the problem felt.

Whichever one is yours

The walkaround is 20 minutes, free, no obligation. Tell us which of the five sounds familiar, or don't — we'll figure it out together, and you'll leave with an honest answer either way, even if that answer is "not yet."
