Four Ways We Work On A Garage

We used to describe what we do in one word. Reset. Somebody would call, we would clear the garage, and that was the job.

It worked, and it also hid three quarters of what actually helps.

Because clearing a garage is the easy half. Any two people with a truck can move things out of a room. The hard part is what happens next, and whether the room is still like that in a year. So we have split what we do into four honest pieces, and put a name on each one, so you can pick what you actually need instead of buying a word.

Sort. Clearing it out.

This is the part everyone pictures. We come to your garage in Victoria, Saanich, Langford, Colwood, Sidney, Sooke, Duncan or Nanaimo, and we go through it with you.

Not for you. With you. You make every keep or let go decision, because they are your things and nobody else can make those calls honestly. We do the lifting, the sorting, the staging, and we take away whatever is leaving. Donations go somewhere they can be used.

Three levels, depending on how far you want to take it. Essential starts at $750.

What changed: it used to be called a reset, and it now has a name of its own. That matters because it is no longer the only thing on the menu, and you should be able to buy just this if that is all you want.

Store. Giving everything a home.

Here is the thing we learned the expensive way. A garage that gets cleared and not built out fills back up in about a year.

Not because anyone was careless. Because the things came back and there was nowhere for them to go, so they went on the floor, which is where they were before.

So Store is the shelving, racking, overhead storage, slatwall and cabinetry we design and install so the room actually holds. Two ways to go at it. Functional is heavy duty and built to carry weight. Fitted is measured and made for your walls, and it is what the wall you see from the driveway usually wants. Most garages want some of each, in different zones.

Why this helps you: it is the difference between a tidy afternoon and a garage that is still tidy next winter. And you can see the whole cost before anything is ordered, because materials are quoted at what they cost us plus a handling rate, never marked up twice.

Spaces. The rest of the house.

About half the people who book a garage walkaround end up pointing at something else on the way past. A spare room that became storage. A shed nobody opens. A locker they are paying for monthly and cannot remember the contents of.

The most honest thing we can tell you is that every organized space drifts. Ours does too.

Care is a membership that brings us back on a schedule to put the drift right before it becomes a problem. A check in, a reset of the zones that have slipped, and a haul away of whatever has accumulated. Three levels, from an annual health check to two seasonal visits a year.

Why this helps you: it is far cheaper than doing the whole thing again in three years, and that is genuinely what the alternative looks like.

What has not changed

The walkaround is still free and still twenty minutes. There is still no obligation at the end of it. You still get a real number in writing before anything happens, and we still come back within thirty days to touch up the sort at no charge.

You also still do not need to tidy before we come. We have seen it all and none of it surprises us. A full garage is not a character flaw. It is what happens when there has not been a spare Saturday for two years running.
